Gopeng, Batu Gajah (DREAM DESTINATION TRAVEL & TOURS SDN BHD)

Gopeng is a town located in Mukim Teja, District of Kampar, Perak, Malaysia. It is situated approximately 20 km south of Ipoh, the state capital. The town is located on the west side of the North-South Expressway stretch of Tapah-Simpang Pulai. The limestone hills and the Titiwangsa Mountains are clearly visible; the expressway penetrates between them and the view of the Tapah-Gopeng stretch is one of the most picturesque areas on the west side of Peninsular Malaysia. Due to its strategic location, locals are indeed very fortunate to have major towns approximately half an hour from Gopeng, Batu Gajah to the west, Ipoh to the north and Kampar at the south.

Once this town was bustling with tin miners and locals who busied themselves with the great tin mining industry of Malaysia until the collapse of the tin empire in 1980s. According to locals, there were once French, British and local tin mining companies developing tin mine industry there. Among them was called the Osbourne & Chappel which opened its franchise here in one of Gopeng’s rich tin mine.

Both locals and immigrants worked there. People started to flee the town and seek better opportunities in neighboring towns and cities soon after the collapse of the 1980s.However, the love towards the town has never been faded and now Gopeng already flourished with heritage, cuisine and eco-tourism attractions developed by the locals themselves. Gopeng is also well known for limestone caves such as Gua Tempurung, located approximately 5 km from the town centre.DD We Know Some Places Better Then Other

The National Zoo (Malay: Zoo Negara)

The National Zoo (Malay: Zoo Negara) is a zoo in Malaysia located on 110 acres (45 ha) of land in Ulu Klang, near Taman Melawati, in north-east Kuala Lumpur. It was officially opened on 14 November 1963. The park is managed by a non-governmental organization known as the Malaysian Zoological Society. For funding, Zoo Negara relies on gate collections and on support from donors and sponsors.

Zoo Negara is home to 5137 animals of 459 different species. Over the years, the zoo has transformed itself to an open concept zoo with over 90% of its animals kept in spacious exhibits with landscape befitting its nature.
In 1957, the Malayan Agri-Horticultural Association (MAHA) opened a miniature zoo. After the creation of the mini-zoo, the idea of proper zoo gradually gained momentum, and the federal government chose a spot in Ulu Klang, Selangor next to the border of Kuala Lumpur. In the 1960s, Ulu Klang was an undeveloped green area. In 1963, the first Prime Minister of Malaya (now Malaysia) YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman opened the zoo to the public. Zoo Negara was known as the “Zoo in the Jungle” due to the greenery that surrounded the area.
The zoo welcomed its millionth visitor on February 14, 1966, just three years after opening, and by 1986, the zoo was welcoming over 1 million visitors per year.
The area surrounding the zoo was covered with thick vegetation until the late 1970s as Kuala Lumpur underwent an economic boom. Given Ulu Klang’s close proximity with Kuala Lumpur, the area was opened for large scale development as a planned residential area in the 1980s. It has expanded in terms of population ever since. The development has caused the zoo’s surrounding areas and also increases the land value where the zoo is located.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, there were plans to move the zoo to other locations in Selangor. However, the plans were largely unpopular among the public as it is seen as an effort by some developers to capitalise on the value of the zoo’s large land. With the support from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Selangor State Government, Zoo Negara will not be relocated

Tubotel Langkawi

Budget travellers; fed up forking out for a boring beige box? Tubotel, a unique concept hotel in Langkawi, just dropped a colourful bombshell on Sungai Chenang.

Inspired by Austrian Dasparkhotel, by architect Andy Strauss, this abstract hotel where you live in a concrete tube, takes minimalist accommodation to the maximum.

The barrels are frothing with a cocktail blend of relaxation and excitement. Chill out in your spout, admiring the immediate sea views, but don’t get tunnel vision! Tubotel has endless eye-candy to boggle the brain, a funky social scene, and a diversity of entertainment

3 salt-water Jacuzzis, giant day-bed sun-loungers, full café, bar and restaurant, all on the water’s edge, make for a place you won’t want to leave. Activities including Jet-skiing, Cruises, Jungle Trekking and lots more can be organised from the comfort of your cask. But if you want to take a 5 minute walk to the tourist hotspot, Cenang Beach, golden sand and duty-free shopping awaits.

All the tubes come with a dressed king-size bed, ample storage underneath, light, plug sockets, fan and a free Kick-Ass Langkawi Sunset. There is no need for A/C since these enormous concrete pipes have excellent thermal qualities, but there are cube rooms available, with air-con, for those who aren’t ready to dive into the duct.
